LIVE with Chef Tiffany! French Macarons for Kids and Beginners

Jan 27, 2021

SIGN UP FOR CHEF TIFFANY'S CLASSES HERE

Chef Tiffany from The Kids Cooking School joined The Colorful Cookie for a Facebook LIVE with a French macaron lesson.

Chef Tiffany is the founder of The Kids Cooking School, a non profit cooking school for kids. Her mission is to teach kids to love cooking with real food. Anything that helps kids learn new things, offers encouragement, and builds their self esteem is a win in my book! I am a former elementary teacher and I love kids so much!

You all know I love cookies too! One of my favorite cookies is the French macaron, NOT to be confused with the macaroon cookie made with coconut and egg whites(I love those too though!) The French macaron is one of the most delicious cookies on the planet, besides decorated sugar cookies, of course! Macarons are crunchy on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside. To top it off, they are chewy, come in a pair and filled with yummy buttercream!

Over the years, I have met tons of amazing people through my Kansas City Cookier Facebook group, The Colorful Cookie Facebook page, my Cookie-A-Thon Facebook group, online teaching in The Colorful Cookie Club, and in person classes and meet ups at CookieCon. It is a fun time to be a cookier! So much information is available to help you learn to decorate cookies!

I have met some of these pages and cookiers listed below in person, some I have met virtually, and some I have never met, but I have purchased from them or follow their helpful blogs or YouTube channel. We all have people who inspire us: blogs, Facebook pages, Instagram pages, and YouTube channels. This is a list I have compiled for you to have so YOU can find them and be inspired by them too. And as a bonus, some of them offer us special coupon codes!

These have been alphabetized and are linked directly to to their websites, Facebook or IG  pages, Facebook group, or YouTube channel. We continually add to this...

I used a photo of myself to create my stencil. If you want to learn to design cookie stencils and cookie cutters, consider joining us!

The Differences Between Traditional Stencils and Silk Screen Stencils

Oct 30, 2020

When it comes to deciding which type of cookie stencil to use, much of it will come down to personal preference. I want to share what I know about both types of stencils so that you will have the information you need to decide which method will work best for you. Both types of stencils will give you beautiful results but their subtle differences are important to understand.

What’s the difference between silkscreen stencils and traditional stencils?

  • Traditional stencils: These stencils are cut out of a plastic-type material that needs bridging to hold the stencil in place. They are sturdy, easy to use, and easy to store. Because a traditional stencil is thicker, you will use slightly more icing which gives your cookies more dimension. You can learn more about the different types of traditional stencil materials HERE.

What is a bridge?

Bridges are the little pieces of the stencil material that connect the cut design...

Post #2 in our "Wondering What You Need to Cut Cookie Stencils?" Series

Oct 07, 2020

This is part 2 of the What Do You Need to Cut Cookie Stencils? Series!

In the first post of the series, I discussed some of the most important things you need when you decide to start cutting stencils. If you missed it, be sure to check it out here, so you can decide which machine and cutting mats you'd like before you get started.

In this post, we will be discussing traditional stencils materials and tools you can use when cutting your cookie stencils.  Traditional stencils are made from food-grade plastic type materials. There are also a few tools you can grab to help out with your stencil cutting. Although these tools are nice to have, they are not needed to begin!

Let's start with the traditional stencil materials you'll need.

 1. Food Safe Stencil Materials
