Clean Those Little Bits of Stencil Material Off of Your Cutting Mat

If you design and cut your own cookie stencils, you will totally relate to this blog post. If you are thinking about designing and cutting cookie stencils, you will want to keep this handy little tip in mind.

Have you ever wondered how to get all those extra little bits of stencil material off of your cutting mat after you’ve cut a detailed traditional stencil? Do all those extra little bits of stencil material that are left on your mat drive you crazy? Me too! But, if you have the right tool, it’s easy to clean your mats off!

When I cut a stencil, I like to lift it right off the mat and have a perfectly cut out design. I do not want to spend time picking out a million tiny pieces of stencil material that may not have completely cut out. I want my stencil to cut cleanly. I know you do too! You want all those tiny pieces to stick to the mat and be left behind. However, what you leave behind on the mat can be a pain to clean off...

Take Your Cutting Machine Out of the Box!

Jan 31, 2020

How many of you know the quote that I am famous for? You know the one where I make that funny face and say…

“Get that machine out of the BOX!”

Did you get a new Cricut or a Cameo cutting machine for Christmas? Or maybe you got one just for fun years ago and it’s still sitting in the box? I can’t count the number of times that I have been told, “I have a cutting machine, but it has been in my closet for three years.” or “It has never been out of the box and I’ve had it for over a year.”

It’s time to ask yourself “What is keeping me from getting my cutting machine out and getting started?” Are you afraid of it? Is it overwhelming to think about setting it up, registering it, and trying to learn the software? Are you afraid you won’t be able to do it? I hope it will make you feel better to know you are not the only one! I’ve heard these concerns over and over from so many people. But I...

Which Cutting Machine Should I Buy?

Blog Post Updated June 2020

WHICH CUTTING MACHINE IS BEST FOR MAKING COOKIE STENCILS? WHICH MACHINE WILL I LIKE BETTER? THE CRICUT OR THE SILHOUETTE CAMEO?

This is the number one question that I get asked. The other most asked questions are, “How do I add bridges to letters and where do they need to be added? and “What material and cut settings do I use to cut my stencils?” I share this and more helpful information in The Colorful Cookie Club.

Learn all that you need to know to design and cut culinary stencils using a Cricut or a Silhouette Cameo cutting machine and design cookie cutters in several design programs in The Colorful Cookie Club. There are over 400 video tutorials and more videos get added all of the time. We even learn to draw cookie stencil and cookie cutter designs on our iPads. Game Changer! There is a weekly LIVE Q & A along with interactive tutorials in our member’s only Facebook Group too. Did I...

Stencil Organization Help

Jul 10, 2019

HELLO, COOKIERS!

I am admittedly a perfectionist. I am getting better at not being so hard on myself if everything doesn’t go as planned. If I am not careful, it can steal my JOY! I DO NOT want that. I am sure that all perfectionists out there can relate. I hold myself to a very high standard in everything I do, especially my work. However, if I had let that perfectionism get in my way, I would have never started my original Colorful Cookie Blog that led to The Colorful Cookie Studio and The Colorful Cookie Club. I would have never recorded any video tutorials, let alone go LIVE on Facebook! None of those things are ever perfectly done. Never! That is because we are not perfect. No one is! So, let’s let good enough be good enough! Remember last week’s email?? Have you gone LIVE on your Facebook page? Do it. Stop waiting! It won’t be perfect. Who cares!! I encourage you to do it!

I struggle with organization and I think that’s part of my perfectionism(of...

Using Drawing Apps for Stencil and Cookie Cutter Design

Jun 23, 2019

Are you using Procreate or another drawing app to make stencil and cookie-cutter designs yet? I am just learning to use a few of the many drawing apps available and LOVING them! I am one of those people who can never learn enough about new technologies! My brain is on overload most of the time. I am not sure how much more I can put in there!

I have used Procreate, Adobe Draw, Adobe Sketch, and Sketchbook on my iPad to design stencils. I still need practice, but I get better each time I use them. All of these apps except Procreate are available for desktop use too. Procreate is a paid app for iPad and iPhone. The others are available for free. I use them on my iPhone, but it is a little more difficult because of the small screen. I am learning new tricks to make my drawings better every time I use them. These drawing apps have a variety of places to tap on the screen and make magical things happen! It is easy to design and upload your digitized drawings right to your cutting...

Jun 16, 2019

It’s official! Summer is here! I recently had a birthday and went on vacation. Look at this beach! It was beautiful! A little rest and relaxation are always necessary to get the creative energy flowing again! I feel rested and ready to create!

This post is for you if you need an explanation of Silhouette Studio Software and the difference in updates and upgrades. Find the Silhouette Studio software here for the best price around.

I know this stuff can be confusing, so I am going to make this explanation as simple as I can for cookiers who want to learn to design stencils and decide which software edition will meet their needs.

Here goes…

First, let’s talk about the difference between the Silhouette Studio software editions. Each of them build on the next and there are additional tools in each edition. They also open various file types, but for this post, I discuss the file types that I find easiest and most convenient to use. If you want to see the...
